Quality Control Chemist Location of the job: Hammond, IN (Union) Rotating Shift Hours: (1st week) 7:00 am – 3:15 pm (2nd week) 3:00 pm – 11:15 (3rd week) 11:00 pm – 7:15 am Base Pay Rate: $ 37.98 | Weekly Pay Periods Overall Benefits These are direct hires, full time position with a full benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, SHARE purchases, Tuition/Fitness reimbursement, Paid leaves, Hourly Bonus payouts, etc.) Onsite Company store for discounted product purchases Uniforms and PPE provided by the company Career Advancement Opportunities Background & Purpose of the Job Our Unilever Hammond, IN facility is the home of the Dove Beauty bar, one of Unilever's biggest brands and the largest soap factory within the US. Our Hammond facility is where we have been working to make beauty a source of confidence by manufacturing the different variations of the Dove beauty bar. By joining our Hammond team, you will join a globally recognized site, that is also famous for being able to produce a billion bars in one year. The Quality Control Chemist performs analytical tests using both instrumentation and wet benchtop methods on raw material, in process, and finished good samples, ensuring compliance to specifications and standards. All activities must be performed in strict compliance with Unilever standards and safety guidelines. Who You Are & What You’ll Do Audits finished good production on the packaging floor. Maintains equipment and chemical inventory with routine calibrations and standardizations. Issues holds and dispositions material that is found to be out of specification. Performs data entry for all test results every shift. Upholds an emphasis on safety, especially when handling potentially dangerous chemicals. Follow, maintain, and improve upon SOPs used in the lab. Work independently on all laboratory tests and work in a team when dealing with pack floor and process related production issues. Experience with FTIR, Near IR, UV Vis, and/or GC preferred. Experience with Continuous Improvement methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma, TPM, WCM, Lean Manufacturing), preferred. Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices that include but not limited to: No Smoking at the facility, No Jewelry while working, Electronic Device Usage, PPE, and Proper Hygiene. All other duties as assigned. What You’ll Need To Succeed 4 year degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or related field. 2 semesters of college level General Chemistry with corresponding lab work and 2 semesters of college level Organic Chemistry with corresponding lab work. Background knowledge of Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO, FSSC), preferred. SAP knowledge, preferred. Strong attention to detail. Must be able to work rotating shifts and be available to work weekends and holidays in an environment with regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles.
