GENERAL:


In accordance with the Hot Springs Health Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual and the requirements of our accrediting bodies, the volunteer will: support the mission "Partnering with our community for quality health and healing", the five core values " O wnership, A lways Better Than Yesterday, S ervice First, I ntegrity, and S tewardship of Our Resources (OASIS)". The volunteer must also demonstrate the competencies for their position and adhere to policies and procedures of their department. The volunteer will participate in quality improvement activities.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Overview: The Volunteer Hospital Chaplain provides emotional and spiritual support to patients, families, and hospital staff. This role focuses on offering comfort, compassion, and a listening presence to individuals of all backgrounds and beliefs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Visit patients and families to offer support and companionship as requested
  • Listen with empathy and provide encouragement during difficult times
  • Respect and support diverse spiritual and cultural beliefs
  • Offer prayers or spiritual guidance when requested
  • Support hospital staff with compassion and understanding
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow hospital guidelines
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strong listening and communication skills
  • Compassionate, respectful, and nonjudgmental attitude
  • Ability to be present with people in times of illness or stress
  • Comfort working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs
  • Reliable and able to commit to scheduled volunteer hours
  • Background as a pastor, minister, chaplain, or in a related spiritual care role preferred
  • Completion of, or willingness to pursue, relevant training such as pastoral care, ministry, or chaplaincy education (e.g., Clinical Pastoral Education) is a plus but not required
  • Endorsement or support from a faith community (if applicable) preferred

Age Specific:

Must be able to provide care according to the developmental level and or chronological patient served. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying the needs and abilities of each patient, and demonstrating an understanding of how a patient's chronological and developmental age influences his/her need for adaptations related to his/her abilities. Also, an understanding of how a patient's age impacts his/her ability to deal with and adapt to the care needed/provided is required. General census of neonatal to geriatric patients.

While filling this position, the volunteer must regularly lift and or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. This position also requires walking or standing to a significant degree. This position also requires reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, and hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, and working with equipment.

The volunteer is subject to inside and possibly outside weather conditions. The volunteer is also subject to exposure to blood and body fluids, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, exposure to burns and radiant energy, exposure to explosives, exposure to toxic chemicals and biological agents.
