Position Overview:

The Sr. Business Systems Analyst will support the IT Supply, Logistics, and Risk organization, bridging the user community and IT. This role involves assisting the business in its use and understanding of the Motiva systems needed to conduct business activities effectively and efficiently. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Business Analyst with knowledge of the downstream industry, particularly in Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems and processes. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in optimizing our business processes, ensuring efficient use of technology, and providing valuable insights into decision-making within our organization. The role spans business processes, function delivery, and application expertise. The Sr. Business Analyst will be trained to have functional knowledge in logistics and risk processes. The analyst will capture the business value and leverage Motiva's investment in the toolset by continuously improving technology, processes, and organizational capabilities associated with the use of the systems. The successful candidate will be a fast learner, able to work with limited supervision, enjoy helping others, and have good attention to detail.

This is an in-office role located at our corporate headquarters in downtown Houston, TX.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop a collaborative partnership between IT and business customers.
  • Provide support for business users primarily on the RightAngle and connected systems.
  • Create detailed user stories and translate business needs and objectives into requirements for the development team to create solutions that meet business needs.
  • Perform process and method analysis, helping define potential enhancements and performance/productivities solutions.
  • Develop and provide status reporting for project progress, issues, dependencies and risks.
  • Set, communicate, and manage customer expectations regarding IT service, delivery, costs, and value.
  • Create business processes and system-related documentation.
  • Support work management activities, including work preparation, prioritization, and planning; create and manage timelines.
  • Address issue and risk management.
  • Facilitate business customer training.
  • Advocate Motiva IT policies, strategies, and practices.
  • Appropriately and professionally represent Motiva and Motiva IT in all interactions with external parties, including vendors of third-party applications.
Experience and Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Information Technology, or a related field (Master's preferred)
  • 8+ years of experience as a Business Analyst in the energy industry sector
  • 8+ In-depth knowledge of the commodities trade lifecycle, including physical and financial energy trading processes
  • Abilities to lead discussion and requirements gathering with business related challenges and priorities.
  • Solid understanding of ETRM systems and their applications.
  • 5+ years of experience with RightAngle or Allegro.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Project experience with a track record of successful, on-time delivery.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
  • Ability to work in Motiva's Downtown Houston location Monday-Thursday.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • 8+ years prior work experience in the downstream energy industry, specifically with RightAngle.
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational databases.
  • Ability to proactively identify issues and limitations with RightAngle and propose solutions and workarounds.
  • Experience in an Agile or Iterative environment.
