Position description

The Graphic Designer helps bring the Women in Science PDX brand to life through engaging, accessible visual content. Working from our Canva template library and brand guidelines, you'll create graphics that support events, editorial content, volunteer initiatives, and community outreach while contributing your own creative ideas to help us continually improve our visual storytelling. Whether you're looking to build your portfolio, strengthen your design skills, or simply have a creative outlet, this is an opportunity to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact through design.

Key Position Responsibilities

  • Create graphics for social media, events, editorial content, volunteer recruitment, and other organizational initiatives using Canva.
  • Adapt and customize existing brand templates while maintaining visual consistency across WIS PDX communications.
  • Collaborate with fellow Communications team members to develop graphics that effectively support communication goals and campaigns.
  • Contribute creative ideas for new templates, design systems, workflows, and visual storytelling.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, accessibility, and consistency of our graphic design process.
  • Incorporate feedback and revisions throughout the design process.
  • Attend monthly Communications Committee meetings.

Ideal Experience

We're looking for creative individuals who enjoy visual storytelling and want to continue developing their design skills. Helpful experience includes:

  • Canva or other graphic design tools
  • Visual communication or branding
  • Social media content creation
  • Typography, layout, or illustration
  • Photography or digital art

Professional design experience is not required . Whether you're a student, early-career designer, or simply someone who enjoys creating, we're happy to help you grow your skills.
