Job Title: General Production Worker – Machine Operator
This role focuses on operating production machinery in the commercial nuclear department to manufacture high-precision springs. You will monitor machine screens, maintain production targets, and perform frequent quality checks using measurement tools such as micrometers and calipers. Over time, you will receive training to independently set up and operate the machine, ensuring consistent output and product quality in a clean, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Operate a production machine that manufactures springs by inserting rods and monitoring the process throughout the shift.
Read and interpret machine screens to track order progress and identify any imperfections or issues while the machine is running.
Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other measuring tools to inspect parts and confirm they meet required tolerances.
Visually inspect parts and machine output to detect defects, irregularities, or signs of equipment malfunction.
Document production and inspection results as required to support quality and production tracking.
Follow training to eventually set up and operate the machine independently, including preparing materials and adjusting settings as needed.
Carry out repetitive production tasks while maintaining focus, accuracy, and attention to detail throughout the shift.
Support deburring and grinding tasks as needed, ensuring parts are finished to required standards.
Adhere to all safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, contributing to a safe and efficient manufacturing environment.
Essential Skills
At least 2 years of machine operation experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated experience using micrometers (mics), calipers (cals), and gauges for inspection and quality checks.
Strong math skills to support accurate measurements, counts, and basic calculations related to production and quality.
Consistent work history with evidence of good job tenure and reliability.
At least 2 years of manufacturing experience for roles that include deburring and related production tasks.
Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining accuracy, quality, and attention to detail.
Capability to work safely in a manufacturing setting and follow established procedures.
Work Environment
This position is based in a clean manufacturing facility that focuses on precision production. All roles are on first shift, typically from 6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., providing consistent daytime hours. The work involves spending much of the day seated while operating the machine, with periods of movement for inspections, deburring, or related tasks. During the summer, the facility can be warm, and employees may wear shorts as part of a casual, practical dress code appropriate for a production setting. The grinding room can be noisy due to continuous grinding operations, and employees must be comfortable working in an environment with industrial equipment and sound. Personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, is required, and safety procedures are an integral part of daily work.
